First Aid at Work - FAW (HSE approved)
Who should attend this course?
This course is ideal for nominated first aiders in the workplace, or anyone requiring comprehensive first aid training, providing the skills to deal with first aid emergencies.
Topics covered include;
- Health and safety (first aid) regulations
- Managing an incident
- The priorities of first aid
- Dealing with an unconscious casualty
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Shock
- Bleeding
- Common workplace injuries.
- Administering first aid to a casualty with:
- injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
- chest injuries;
- burns and scalds;
- eye injuries;
- sudden poisoning;
- anaphylactic shock;
- Recognising the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).
Course delivery
The course is delivered in a classroom environment and requires an element of physical activity. Completion of the course is subject to a formal assessment of competency on the final day.

3 days
Certified
Successful candidates will receive a certificate of competence that is valid for 3 years.
Additional information
The HSE strongly recommends that candidates attend an Annual Refresher course.
This course information includes all changes brought about by the HSE review, and is correct for FAW courses from 1 October 2009.
